Right around the time I was expecting my first child, I read this article in Oprah's magazine about the power of family rituals. Because of my interest in photography, this one, from Jean Hanff Korelitz, really resonated with me: On my daughter's first birthday, I took her out to the backyard with a purple Emilio Pucci dress that had belonged to my mother in the '60s, slipped it over her little body and took her picture. On my daughter's second birthday, I did the same thing (the dress drooped a tiny bit less). By her third birthday, she was throwing up…

"I absolutely LOVE the sneak peak. I can't wait to see the rest! Thanks so much for capturing her day PERFECTLY!"

"Melanie has the uncanny ability to capture a child’s personality. Her photographs do so much more than just chronicle a child’s life--she captures who just they are.  My all-time favorite photographs of all three of my children are ones that she took. Others I tend to cycle out as the kids grow up, but Melanie’s are more like art work that will hang in my home forever."
